Charities & Non-Profits

 

The following are the guidelines that need to be met before a charity or non-profit can be considered for a donation from 100 Youth Who Care CBRM. It must be noted that only members of 100 Youth Who Care CBRM can nominate and vote for a charity/organization. There is no proxy voting. In order to be considered at a meeting the organization/charity must be:

 

  • Based in Cape Breton Regional Municipality. 

  • Must be a registered not-for-profit or charitable organization eligible to provide tax reciepts for donations. 

  • Member donations mut be used in CBRM and cannot be used for travel or adminstration costs. 

  • Must be established for a minimum of one full year. 

  • No national or international charities, programs or organization will be considered at this time. The current focus remains on the local community.

  • Once a charity is selected as reciepient of the donation they cannot be reconsidered again for five years.

  • An exception to the above regulation is if a specific program within the larger organization. The funds must go directly to the specific program and not the larger organization.

  • If a charity is chosen to present, but was not awarded the donation, their organization cannot be nominated again for a full year.

  • Members nominate a charitable organization for consideration upcoming registereing to join our CBRM Chapter and every quarter following their initial registration. 

  • Nominations are created as a draw and three organizations are chosen prior to every meeting. 

  • The nominated charities will be kept secret until the night of the meeting. If the details of the nominations are made public a new group of charities will be selected from the nomination list. The three charaties withdrawn from selection will be added to the list for consideration next quarter. 

  • A representative from each of the nominated charities are asked to make a five minute presentation with no powerpoint or props during the meeting. After all three presentations members will vote for the winning charity. 

  • The charity who recieves the donation agrees to return to the next quarterly meeting to give an update on how the donation is being used to benefit the CBRM community.
